Washington County, Tenn. (September 5, 2025) — September is National Preparedness Month, and Washington County / Johnson City Emergency Management Agency (WCJCEMA) is encouraging the community to get involved and prepare for emergencies before they happen.
National Preparedness Month was created in 2004 by FEMA to raise awareness about the importance of being ready for disasters and emergencies.
Throughout the month, WCJCEMA will share tips and information to help you and your family prepare now for whatever the future may hold. Preparedness is a shared responsibility, and every step you take makes our community stronger and safer.
What steps can you take today?
Build a Kit. Put together enough supplies to last at least three days. Include food, water, a flashlight, batteries, radio, first aid kit, sanitation supplies, medications, and important documents. Keep one at home, at work, and in your car. Visit ready.gov/kit for a recommended supply list to include in your emergency kit.
Make a Plan. Talk with your family about how you will stay in touch and where you will meet if separated.
This month is about preparing now for whatever tomorrow may bring. WCJCEMA is here to support you with resources and guidance.
